Alderman Alastair King DL has been elected as the 696th Lord Mayor of the City of London, taking office on Friday 8 November 2024. He will succeed Professor Michael Mainelli and will serve a one-year term as the head of the City of London Corporation. As the global ambassador for the UK financial and professional services industry, Alderman King will engage with government officials and business leaders worldwide, promoting the UK as a premier destination for foreign investment. His first public engagement was the Lord Mayor’s Show on Saturday 9 November, which was broadcast by the BBC and can be watched on BBC iPlayer.
During his Mayoral year, Alderman King will focus on his theme of ‘Growth Unleashed’, which aims to encourage responsible risk-taking, drive technology adoption, and celebrate the diverse communities across the UK. He emphasised the need for London to maintain its status as a leading financial centre amidst fierce global competition. Alderman King is committed to igniting innovation and supporting productive sectors of the economy, aiming to secure the City’s position as the world’s top financial hub.
