The 695th Lord Mayor of London, Michael Mainelli, has pledged allegiance to the crown in a grand ceremonial procession through central London.
In one of the world’s oldest processions, Mr Mainelli was transported from the City of London to Westminster in a magnificent gold carriage on Saturday, accompanied by military personnel and performers in vibrant costumes.
The Lord Mayor’s Show, a free civic parade dating back to the 13th century, saw Mr Mainelli, an economist and former accountant, take on the prestigious role. He is set to serve as a global ambassador for the UK’s financial and professional services industry.
